Even PS3 users can be altruists

Man, my new job is kicking my ass. Sorry for so few updates.

Anyhow, remember when I wrote about the donating of unused computing cycles to solve the scourge of AIDS and other diseases? Well, I was reading the backlog of GayGamer.net, one of my favorite blogs, today when I read this:

First ever PS3 Protein Foldathon

We reported a few days ago about Stanford University’s amazing Folding@Home project coming to the PS3. With the latest 1.6 firmware update for the PS3, you can run the program to help with complex protein folding calculations to aid in cancer research.

A group of dedicated individuals at the official Playstation message boards are wrangling PS3’s for a group to run the program on Sunday night. The effort is being dubbed the Sunday night Fold-a-thon. Neither Stanford or Sony is affiliated with the effort, but the support has been great since the announcement of the program.
